Wimbledon Embraces Video Replay System in 2025.

Wimbledon tennis court with video review technology

The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing video review technology.

Video review technology will make its debut at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Athletes will gain the option to challenge particular calls made by the chair umpire, echoing the practice already in use at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.

This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This development follows just a year after the AELTC introduced ELC, which terminated the longstanding role of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to review other situations, such as:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a ball touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
  • Possible hindrance end of a point.

Importantly, there is no limit on the number of reviews a player can initiate.

A Recent Example

A recent incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "played the rules effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined the player was responsible for interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.

Other Changes

Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves situations where fans have sometimes been uncertain if a ball was in or out.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
